Online Monthly Book Discussions: Peer-Learning Groups (in process)
(registration closed for 2023)
Choose from 4 Titles Below

If you are desiring connection with a wider circle of Great Commission women who want to dive deeper into God’s Word and His ways,  this is for you!  We offer a variety of titles exploring topics like women in the Bible, theology of women, soul care, women in leadership and more. You will choose ONE of the titles below to join a peer-learning group with facilitator-guided discussion.

Groups are limited to 10 participants (closed when full) to best support both our new relationships and vibrant discussions. Guided by experienced facilitators, we can look forward to a deeper dive on the subject at hand each week.

Because groups are limited in size, we count on group members doing all they can to be present, prepared, and ready to participate each meeting. While we understand that unexpected issues come up, we trust that each participant will honor her group by making this monthly meeting a priority. This way we can all look forward to the most meaningful experience together!

Registration by March 27 (unless the group fills sooner)  At the close of registration, your facilitator will be contact with you! Feel free to order your book right away so you have it in plenty of time.

SACRED RHYTHMS: Arranging our Lives for Spiritual Transformation, by Ruth Haley Barton

Spiritual disciplines open us to God’s transforming love and the changes that only God can bring about in our lives.  Picking up on the monastic tradition of creating a “rule of life” that allows for regular space for the practice of the spiritual disciplines, this book takes you more deeply into understanding seven key disciplines along with practical ideas for weaving them into everyday life.  Each chapter includes exercises to help you begin the practices individually and in a group context.  The final chapter puts it all together in a way that will help you arrange your life for spiritual transformation.

Dates: 2nd Mondays (once a month), April 10 – Nov 13
Time: 12:00 – 1:00pm, Eastern Time
Facilitator:  Ruthie Campbell, SIM International
Following 9 years with SIM in South Africa, Ruthie, Darren and their two children moved to the US to continue serving through SIM’s International office and currently reside in Fort Mill, South Carolina.  She is a Spiritual Director and serves on the Spiritual Vitality and Prayer team supporting SIM’s global prayer initiatives and their network of Prayer Coordinators across SIM.

VINDICATING THE VIXONS: Revisiting Sexualized, Vilified, and Marginalized Women of the Bible, edited by Sandra Glahn

The church has a long history of viewing prominent women of the Bible through a skewed interpretive lens. Eve is best known for causing the fall. Sarah is blamed for tensions in the Middle East. Ruth acted scandalously on the threshing floor. And Mary Magdalene is infamous for a life of prostitution. By misinterpreting their stories, we also risk adopting a faulty view of God. Vindicating the Victims challenges these superficial treatments and contends that we have missed what biblical authors intended to convey about 13 notable women of Scripture.

Dates: 1st Fridays (once a month), April 7 – Nov 3
Time: 12:00 – 1:30pm, Eastern Time
Facilitator:  Eva Burkholder, Christar
Eva is an MK from PNG, former cross-cultural worker in Indonesia, and currently a member care provider with Christar. Wife to Mark and mother of two married sons, she currently lives in Richardson, Texas and enjoys blogging, doing puzzles, and macramé.

WOMEN IN GOD’S MISSION: Accepting the Invitation to Serve and Lead, by Mary Lederleitner

This book surveys women from a variety of cultures across the globe to gather their insights as women who lead gospel efforts. The author unveils how women serve in distinctive ways and identifies key traits of faithful connected leaders who resourcefully carry on with resilience and hope.  Real-life stories give us so much to learn about the dynamics that inhibit women and also give testimony to God’s grace that causes them to thrive.

Dates: First Thursday (once a month), April 6 – Nov 2
Time: 2:00-3:30pm, Eastern Time
Facilitator:  Wendy Wilson, Missio Nexus, Women’s Development Track

THE MAKING OF BIBLICAL WOMANHOOD: How the Subjugation of Women Became Gospel Truth, by Beth Allison Barr.

North American definitions of biblical womanhood shape the everyday lives of evangelical women – from choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics – and have found their way into the conversations of cross-cultural workers. This book moves the conversation about biblical womanhood beyond Greek grammar and into the realm of church history–ancient, medieval, and modern–to show how human civilization continues to creep into the church. Barr’s historical insights provide context for contemporary teachings about women’s roles in the church and help move the conversation forward.

Dates: 2nd Mondays (once a month), April 10 – Nov 13
Time: 7:00-8:30pm, Eastern Time
Facilitator:  Beth Eckstein, SEND Intntl
Beth grew up in the Midwest but has made her home in Asia for the last 23 years, spending time in both China and now in Taiwan. Beth works co-vocationally balancing her time between SEND International where she works as a coach and mentor as well as  working as an executive coach and corporate trainer for companies in Asia. She loves spending time in nature, especially at the beach, and is an avid reader. She survived sending her daughter to college last year and is enjoying the last few years of high school with her son.
